I love a good conspiracy...Being part nerd...Part anarchist...Which is totally weird being what I do for a living...BUT I love my job and donuts so what can I say?

Anywhoooo here's a list of the few conspiracies that might peak some interest even among our own indifferent, semi-selfish, uninvolved breathen of punks/goths/metal heads:

1.  We've hit Peak Oil back in 2008...At this point we're in a rapid decline that means we might be out of easy to get petrol/gas within 5-10 years...At that point no more trucks or SUVs without a special work license that and gas/petrol will shoot to $6-$8 a gallon at least.

2.  Aspertame is a poison but it is put in 600 common foods including just about EVERY SINGLE diet food or Zero Calorie beverage.

3.  Flouride in the water causes mental retardation, makes people gulliable and dull minded with almost no reaction or emotions.

4.  There are almost no food reserves in the US while 44 million Americans are on food stamps and hand outs...If there is ever an emergency...Food disruptions could cause issues in the major cities...Especially the poorer neighborhoods.

5.  2011-12 has actually been talked about by NASA as the years the sun's solar flares or EMP might be so strong that it could knock the electrical grid out sending all of us back to the 1800's in technology.

6.  The crap mixed with oil in the Gulf of Mexico is so toxic that they might have to evacuate the southern coastal states up to 20 miles inland.

7.  Most anti-government sites are ran by the government just to get names and keep tabs on dissenters.

8.  Most of the fighting forces are off around the world with very little state militias left...Most state guard equipment is old or semi-useless and the interwining of departments all running the same programs will cause a big fat SNAFUS if ever needed.

9.  There is no liberal or conservative politicians since in the end they all end up doing the same thing and seem to always vote the opposite way that their voters want them to vote...The only difference is on "Wedge Issues" (abortion, sex education in schools, gay rights etc)...However in REAL ISSUES such as tax cuts and cutting government they both do the same things.

10.  There is no Evil Cabal of Wicked Men plotting wars, famines, disasters trying to play gods to the human race but there are business people that make decisions based on money which cause wars and kill millions of people...Hmmmm so maybe there is an Evil Cabal.

oh yes, i would agree htpn, i can be a conspiracy and be true...i think what i was getting at is that people in general view "conspiracy" as the ravings of a paranoid lunatic who is grasping at straws and making connections where there "shouldn't" be any instead of learning a point of view different than whatever the talking heads from whatever letter channel stations propagandize and spoon feed...force feed through their broadcasts.

i would say that history has proven time and time again that governments or ruling authorities, have controlled their people so that we haven't seen what a truly free society is capable of...when people are raised in a healthy environment that promotes freedom and individuality, when we mustn't group together to protect ourselves from an illusionary boogieman, when fear isn't used as a device of control, when people don't feel that "choosing between the lesser or two evils" is a wise action and instead, come up with a completely new solution all together..."too big to fail bail-outs" is a symptom of this thinking, controlled by fear. when we understand what freedom truly is, not the false, slavish "freedom" that the US is under the impression of in a very doublethink kind of nature, perhaps things might be different. in recent times this was attempted and despite all the wisdom of our founding fathers, the US was an experiment that failed. even when considering tribes of people, there was a hierarchy, so perhaps this speaks more to human nature itself. so why do those who desire autonomy and self-governance succumb to the nanny-state servitude that the masses seem to love? what is so different about these people (is there a legitimate, biological difference, perhaps a legitimate difference that we have yet learned how to measure?) and how to create true freedom.

in the words of gary spense from his essay "easy in the harness: the tyranny of freedom": "pure freedom is pure terror", i think this sums up the general human populace of the world quite well. i do wonder if perhaps things are changing...not just on a philosophical level, but on a biological level, if homo sapien sapien isn't evolving before our very eyes.

the conundrum of what to do with a soft, lazy public who is so far removed from what may really be happening in any form other than as human lab rats, is truly an issue that will be dealt with sooner rather than later. as bonnster pointed out, something needs to happen. i'm not advocating violence, rape or torture in any way shape or form, but i think we all feel tension in the air.

i may not like being around people, may not enjoy the public, but as i've said before, i'm fiercely in love with homo sapien sapien...i'm in love with the potential. the amazing things that we could and have accomplished so far, together, freely, the ideas, the passionate great works are worthy of confidence. "we are all a part of this compost heap"...the butterfly effect all starts with the fluttering wings of one butterfly.

Yes these make for great stories by the campfire or over a couple of drinks or over coffee.  Sure, there are conspiracies as sure as there are people and thier nature/god given nature as people.
I disagree on one point you made, Fierce, it can be a conspiracy and be true.
I'm in a unique position where I work and with what I do for a living and very often I find myself in contrast to my personal philosophy for living.

  • To continue the battle against ignorance

  • To share information

  • To serve the public good

  • To continuously work toward the betterment of all wherever and whenever possible

  • Maintain a standard that represents a high work ethic, integrity, fairness and strength through leadership and vision... be the example

Sometimes there are situations for which information cannot be shared due to social circumstances, strategic planning, contingency, etc.  Unfortunately these circumstances make for conspiracy generation.  I'm often at conflict with some of this as I believe that a well informed and educated public is the kind best suited to adapt to any situation that presents itself.  The problem is the assumption that people are reasonable, thinking and motivated toward order and stability.  History proves that sometimes this is not the case.
My point is simply this.  It's one thing to just sit around and be chatty about things but it's better overall to identify issues and where it is possible, step up and take action to remedy these issues.  If it's not possible, okay then, practice acceptance unless and until the situation arises where we can take action.
Yes, I'll likely die an idealist.

d@mn noodles, i KNEW there had to be another "conspiracy theorist" on here besides you and i!

good to know you're in on it deeptranquility! good bill hicks quote too, i remember watching it...imagine what he would have to say about everything that's happening today? truly someone i wish i was able to know. funny how some people can't stand him or just flat out don't get the dry humor, i think he's hilarious. i think you, me and noodles all need to have a meeting at some dark dive bar to discuss these things!

With some further checking it would appear that I got confused between the solar flare situation and the big fricking storm that happened a few years later.  And my memory, or the program I watched, made it sound worse than the web pages I just found about it.  Oh well, bad year for heat/electricity, great year for boarders :)

I second that Fierce.  I know that feeling, although usually people don't wonder whether what's being said is true or not, but more just why they should care.  It always reminds me of Bill Hicks saying something like "...oh yeah, wrong meeting, that's for tomorrow's one at the docks..".

Your number five point isn't really a conspiracy as more a point of fact about the situation we're in as advanced societies at the mercy of nature.  I wouldn't take this as definate as I'm going from memory (there's not an easily googleable wiki page that I can find to check), but in Canada (Ontario?), one of the main cities anyway, back in 1989 solar flares, to put it mildly, fucked them right up.

I seem to remember they had to evacuate the whole/most of the city because there was no power and it was in the middle of winter - which I hear is a little bit nippy in Canada.  The biggest stroke of luck was it only took three months (ish?) to get the power grid fixed, because one of the four main links wasn't damaged and allowed them to use that power to help fix the rest of it.  If they all had gone down then it would have taken much longer, I think maybe half a year, more..  Again though, this is from memory from long ago so best to check - it is quite interesting stuff.

What I remember being most interesting is that electrical circuits can be shielded against this happening, they just weren't.  I'd assume, I would *hope*, that since that happened infrastructures have been improved to deal with such scenarios again.

And for your number ten point, who knows dude, the only thing that makes me wonder just what really goes on is the speach you'll find if you look for "jfk speach on secret societies".  When a president of the biggest superpower says that there is a secret cabal trying to control and manipulate the world, I'd think he's probably right.

I do wonder though how it would work as the generations die off.  Do the people involved pass it down to their children - like, "Here Son, I can feel it's time, here's the keys to the world.  All the knowledge and muscle you need to manipulate the people in power, and those pictures we took of Noodles sunbathing in his mankini from that new satalite we put up last week - check out that tan!"

it's not a conspiracy if you can prove it's true! sometimes at small gatherings, when i talk to people about these things, i feel like i'm the nights entertainment.

but then people will always choose what they want to believe, whether it's true or not.
